AeroVironment to expand industrial footprint in Greece through AV Eagle joint venture
U.S. defense company AeroVironment Inc. plans to strengthen its industrial presence in Greece through AV Eagle, the joint venture it has established with Greek company Eyeonix SA, underscoring the defense sector’s emergence as a dynamic field for cross-border business partnerships amid evolving geopolitical conditions.
The joint venture’s expected activities include the potential establishment of a new facility in Greece for the manufacturing and assembly of unmanned aerial systems, loitering munitions and counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) for defense and civil protection customers in Greece and the broader European market.
AeroVironment will hold a majority stake in AV Eagle, while the joint venture will be consolidated in the company’s financial statements.
AeroVironment: Building long-term capacity with Greece
Wahid Nawabi, AeroVironment’s president and CEO, said the joint venture is “about more than delivering technology—it is about building long-term capacity with Greece and our NATO allies and partners, creating opportunities for local industry and scaling production to meet urgent operational needs.”
He added that “Europe’s security environment has created unprecedented demand for advanced, reliable autonomous systems.”
Eyeonix: A new model for European industrial defense cooperation
According to the timeline, AV Eagle is expected to begin operations in 2027, with production capabilities anticipated by 2028.
AV Eagle will work with local industry and the Hellenic Center for Defense Innovation to accelerate development timelines, strengthen allied readiness and enhance supply-chain resilience.
