Aiming at closer ties with Japan

Japan plays a significant role in United Overseas Group’s (UOG) strategy, as shipowner Peter Georgiopoulos noted in remarks to local media.

Following the acquisition of part of the dry bulk operations of U.S.-based Norvic Shipping, UOG established its first operational base in Japan, aiming to forge closer ties with Japanese shipowners, shipyards, and financial institutions.

Georgiopoulos highlighted that the transaction added high-quality, Japanese-built vessels to the fleet, along with long-term charters with six Japanese shipowners covering nine vessels, including newbuildings.

UOG is already active in the tanker segment and has now expanded into the dry bulk sector, while it is also considering newbuild orders in Japan, despite the limited availability of slots at the country’s shipyards.
