Airbus strengthens its presence in Greece – New office in Athens
Airbus is moving forward with the official launch of its new office in Athens as part of the Group’s strategy to expand its commitment to Greece and its long-standing partners.
The new presence will serve as a hub supporting critical missions for civil and military operators of the Hellenic Republic. Thomas Hein, Head of Europe at Airbus Helicopters, stated: “The opening of Airbus’ office in Greece marks a significant milestone for the company, reinforcing our long-standing presence in the country. After two decades of partnership, we are honored to begin a new chapter that will enhance support for the critical missions carried out by our partners nationwide.”
The launch of the Athens office is a natural continuation of the Group’s activity in Greece, spanning nearly two decades across commercial aviation, helicopters and defence. Airbus is a key pillar of Greece’s connectivity. The national carrier, Aegean Airlines, has been a partner since 2005 and operates a fleet of 70 aircraft exclusively from the Airbus A320 family. Meanwhile, Sky Express has significantly expanded its fleet since 2020, reaching 15 Airbus aircraft. Since the early 2000s, the Group has also been a key partner to the country’s armed forces and public services.
The Hellenic Army deploys NH90 helicopters in natural disaster response, peacekeeping and humanitarian missions. The Hellenic Air Force operates a fleet of 12 Super Puma helicopters for Search and Rescue (SAR) and Combat SAR missions.
The Hellenic Coast Guard, the Fire Service and the Hellenic Police also rely on Airbus technology for critical public safety operations.
On April 30, 2025, Airbus signed a strategically significant contract with the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection. The agreement covers eight H215 helicopters, supported by European funding, and constitutes a key pillar of the “Aegis” program aimed at modernizing the country’s aerial firefighting and civil protection capabilities.
Finally, the company provides advanced satellite imagery through the Pléiades Neo constellation and leads industrial cooperation with Greek companies on the development of the Future Mid-Size Transport Cargo Aircraft (FMTC).
