Aktor – Onex strategic alliance to participate in tender for the Elefsis Port
AKTOR Group and ONEX Shipyards & Technologies Group signed an exclusive strategic cooperation agreement, with the aim of their joint participation in the upcoming tender for the concession of the commercial exploitation of the Port of Elefsis, which is to be announced by the Growthfund.
As emphasized in an announcement by ONEX Group, the concession is expected to be one of the largest development projects in the sectors of transport, supply chain and shipping in Greece.
The two Groups have distinct and complementary characteristics that ensure the effective distribution of roles: AKTOR Group undertakes the construction part of the infrastructure, while ONEX Group undertakes the management and operation of the port infrastructure and activities.
The joining of their forces aspires to create an international shipping hub in Greece, capable of bringing the country to the epicenter of international cargo flows, according to the announcement.
The AKTOR Group has extensive know-how in the construction of complex infrastructure projects, port projects and large-scale port facilities, as well as many years of experience in concession projects, with a portfolio of 16 large concession and PPP projects.
The ONEX Shipyards & Technologies Group, as noted in the announcement, transfers the deep know-how and experience it has acquired as a catalyst in the revival of the shipbuilding industry in Greece. As part of its plan to create a model, integrated hub of shipbuilding, defense, industry, technology and energy, the ONEX Group has dynamically entered port management, through its subsidiary Onex Elefsis Port.
It is noted that the ONEX Group, having owned private port facilities, participates in the Board of Directors of the Association of Hellenic Ports. This broad footprint, combined with the momentum of the Group’s recent international agreements, strengthens the strategic depth of this alliance and accelerates the implementation of the vision for the transformation of Elefsis into a maritime and industrial reference hub.
