DNV names Tsakos Energy Navigation’s “Paris 24” as vessel of the month

The Norwegian classification society DNV has described the newbuild shuttle tanker “Paris 24” of Tsakos Energy Navigation as “state of the art”.

The vessel was delivered in April last year to TEN, together with “Athens 04”, by the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea, and was selected by DNV as Vessel of the Month. Naftemporiki also travelled with TEN last year for the delivery of the two tankers.

Nikolas Tsakos, CEO of the company, stated exclusively to Naftemporiki: “Shipping is increasingly moving towards highly specialised vessels. As oil extraction from offshore platforms takes place in deeper waters, these types of vessels are required — they represent the cutting edge of maritime technology. They are equipped with systems that allow them to remain stable, even in heavy seas, alongside offshore platforms. This is a market with continuous growth, which I believe will not slow down, driven by regions such as the North Sea, followed by Brazil and Africa.”

TEN is one of the world’s largest independent operators of shuttle tankers. These vessels are capable of loading crude oil from offshore production platforms located 120 to 180 nautical miles from the coast. They are designed to remain highly stable (with deviation of up to two metres), even in rough sea conditions, to ensure safe oil transfer operations.

Vessel of the Month

According to DNV, the vessel is equipped with a DP2 (Dynamic Positioning Class 2) system, enabling safe and precise station-keeping during offshore loading operations. It has been specifically designed for shuttle tanker operations, such as transporting cargo from Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) units to onshore terminals, placing it in a highly specialised segment of the tanker market rather than conventional long-haul shipping.

It is also LNG-ready, with built-in capability for future conversion to lower-carbon fuels, while its naming pays tribute to the Olympic spirit, reflecting core values such as teamwork, excellence and long-term commitment.
