GNTO showcases Greece at BTM Expo in Bari
The strategic role of Bari as the primary departure hub for Italian travellers to Greece featured prominently in the Greek National Tourism Organisation’s participation in BTM (Business Tourism Management) Italia 2026, which took place in the Italian city from February 25 to 27 February, 2026.
According to a relevant announcement, the majority of visitors to the Greek pavilion showed strong interest in further strengthening connectivity, as the geographical proximity and historical connection of Puglia with Greece makes the city an important center for sea and road tourism to Greek destinations.
In this context, the Ionian Islands were especially promoted, as they are the most popular destination for tourists using the region’s network of ferry and air connections, while the possibilities for sightseeing tourism in mainland and island Greece were also highlighted.
During the exhibition, executives of the GNTO Italy Office held a series of meetings with travel agents, airline representatives and journalists, with the dual objective of promoting new Greek destinations—aligned with the broader trend of easing pressure on overcrowded hotspots and highlighting lesser-known areas—as well as extending the tourist season through thematic experiences that showcase the authenticity of Greek hospitality year-round.
This year’s event hosted more than 600 exhibitors and 120 international buyers, while Italy’s Minister of Tourism, Daniela Santanche, inaugurated the event.
