Golden Age Capital has announced the final close of its first investment fund, Golden Age Capital Private Equity Fund I (AKES) (“Golden Age Fund I”), with total capital commitments reaching €250 million, above its initial €200 million target, as strong investor demand exceeded the fund’s hard cap.

More than 100 institutional and private investors have committed capital to Golden Age Fund I, with the Hellenic Development Bank of Investments (HDBI) serving as the anchor investor. The investor base includes leading domestic and international family offices, prominent Greek entrepreneurs, systemic banks and insurance companies.

Golden Age focuses on acquiring majority stakes in Greek small and medium-sized enterprises with strong growth prospects in fragmented markets, applying international best practices. Through a buy-and-build/consolidation strategy, it aims to create leading Greek business groups with the potential to expand internationally.

Working closely with entrepreneurs, Golden Age develops value creation plans for each company and provides hands-on support for their implementation. The strategy focuses on improving operational efficiency, attracting specialised executives from Greece and abroad, and investing in new technologies to boost productivity and create new products and services.

“The successful €250 million fundraising and the fund’s oversubscription beyond its hard cap confirm investors’ confidence in our strategy,” said Pericles Mazarakis, Founder and Managing Partner of Golden Age Capital. “We thank our investors for their support and vote of confidence in the investment opportunity Greece offers, including HDBI, which played a catalytic role in the creation of the fund. Our goal is to turn this opportunity into results: with capital, hands-on operational support and our international experience, we are building, together with ambitious Greek entrepreneurs, stronger businesses capable of leading in Greece and abroad,” he added.

Three strategic investments

Golden Age Fund I has already completed three strategic investments while a fourth investment is at the final stage of completion. The fund’s ultimate target is to build a diversified portfolio of 10-12 companies, strengthening their competitiveness and presence in the Greek and European markets.
