Greece receives 60th F-16 Viper fighter jet as upgrade programme advances
The 60th F-16 Viper fighter jet has been delivered to the Hellenic Air Force fleet.
Lockheed Martin and the Hellenic Aerospace Industry (HAI) delivered the aircraft on Wednesday, marking another significant milestone in the progress of Greece’s F-16 modernisation programme.
The F-16V provides Hellenic Air Force pilots with a more comprehensive picture of the operational situation and enhanced interoperability capabilities, enabling faster data assessment and more effective decision-making. The upgraded aircraft features the advanced APG-83 radar, offering enhanced target detection and tracking capabilities at greater distances, as well as an advanced mission computer and modern cockpit displays.
“Every F-16V delivery strengthens Greece’s air defence and enhances interoperability with allied forces,” said Mike Shoemaker, Vice President of Lockheed Martin’s Integrated Fighter Group. “The F-16 will remain a cornerstone of Greek air power for decades to come, as the Hellenic Air Force builds a more integrated force for the future.”
“With the delivery of the 60th F-16 Viper, the programme has now surpassed two-thirds of its implementation. HAI remains firmly committed to the programme’s schedule and requirements, with the aim of successfully completing, on time, a project of critical importance to the Hellenic Air Force,” said Alexandros Diakopoulos, Executive Chairman of the Hellenic Aerospace Industry (HAI).
Modernisation work is continuing at HAI’s facilities in Tanagra, with Lockheed Martin providing engineering, systems integration and technical support through specialised teams in Greece and the United States.
Meanwhile, additional aircraft are at various stages of the upgrade process, with deliveries set to continue through 2027, further enhancing the Hellenic Air Force’s operational readiness and interoperability.
