Greece’s clothing and footwear spending reaches €4.6bn in 2025
Αnnual spending on clothing and footwear in Greece reached €4.6 billion in 2025, according to the Hellenic Association of Knitting and Ready-Made Garment Enterprises, based on recently released data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
The same data show that average annual spending per person in Greece on clothing and footwear rose to €443 in 2025 from €432 in 2024. According to ELSTAT, monthly household spending in Greece increased by 5.5% in 2025. The increase was limited to 2.9% in real terms at 2024 prices, after taking into account official inflation of 2.6% in 2025. Average monthly household spending rose to €1,820 in 2025 from €1,725 in 2024.
Clothing and footwear spending ranks sixth
Food accounted for the largest share of household spending, although its share fell to 20.4% from 20.7% in 2024. This was followed by housing at 14.7%, transport at 13.6%, leisure, travel and restaurants at 11.8%, healthcare at 7.6%, and clothing and footwear in sixth place at 4.9%.
Spending on clothing and footwear increased by 2.5% in 2025, slightly below the growth in overall consumption. As a result, its share of total consumption fell to 4.9% in 2025 from 5.0% in 2024.
