Green Ports and ZIMMERMANN join forces to establish joint venture in Hamburg
Green Ports Hamburg is joining forces with German company ZIMMERMANN to establish a joint venture in Hamburg, strengthening the footprint of the Hellenic Environmental Center (HEC) at one of Europe’s largest ports.
The new business partnership aims to create an integrated environmental services hub for the shipping, industrial and port sectors, leveraging the infrastructure and expertise of the two groups.
The agreement brings together the experience and infrastructure of the two groups with the aim of creating a new hub for integrated environmental management at one of Europe’s most important port centres. The strategic partnership was officially presented on September 3, 2026, at the Hafenklub Hamburg, bringing together two business groups with extensive experience in environmental management, shipping and port services.
Two strong teams, a new force in Hamburg
The new company will operate as an integrated environmental management hub, providing specialised solutions for the collection, processing, recovery and safe management of materials and waste residues.
The partnership combines the international experience of HEC and Green Ports in environmental and port services with ZIMMERMANN’s longstanding expertise in specialised environmental management, expanding the ability to provide integrated services to the shipping and industrial sectors.
“We are combining the expertise and experience of the two groups, creating a strong foundation for developing the next generation of integrated environmental services at the Port of Hamburg,” said Georgios Moustakas, CEO of Green Ports Hamburg.
Combining infrastructure, expertise and operational capabilities
The partnership will leverage the existing infrastructure and operational capabilities of the two groups, creating synergies and a more efficient environmental management model.
Customers will benefit from integrated solutions, shorter transport distances, optimised processes and more efficient use of resources, with the aim of improving operational efficiency and reducing their environmental footprint.
At the same time, the partnership will strengthen environmental protection, the circular economy and the sustainable development of Hamburg and the wider region.
“The partnership allows us to combine the existing infrastructure and expertise of both business groups. Our customers will benefit from an integrated solution and more efficient management of environmental services,” said Christian Schult, CEO of ZIMMERMANN Sonderabfallentsorgung Nord GmbH & Co. KG.
Growth and new opportunities
The new company will create additional jobs and new opportunities for career development, while the exchange of expertise between the two groups will strengthen knowledge transfer and innovation.
“Our companies have developed over decades as family-owned businesses. So, there is chemistry between us. This shared philosophy provides an excellent foundation for our cooperation and for the next step in Hamburg,” said Ioannis Agiostratitis, CEO of Green Ports.
The establishment of the joint venture marks an important milestone for Green Ports and ZIMMERMANN, strengthening the position of both groups in the European environmental services sector and creating new growth opportunities in the German and broader European markets.
With shared expertise, complementary capabilities and a common commitment to sustainability, Green Ports and ZIMMERMANN are embarking on a new joint venture in Hamburg, aiming to help shape the next generation of integrated environmental services for the shipping and industrial sectors.
