Investment of 3.25 million euros
Piraeus Port Authority S.A. (PPA) announced the launch of works for the development of a new park featuring a model playground and a cycling lane, marking the creation of a modern recreational space at the heart of Piraeus’ port zone.
The investment, budgeted at 3.25 million euros (excluding VAT) with an implementation horizon of 24 months, forms part of the port’s strategy to strengthen its social footprint and its integration with the urban fabric. The project’s launch coincides with the tenth anniversary of the cooperation between COSCO SHIPPING and PPA, which has played a pivotal role in upgrading the port’s international standing.
The new park, to be developed in the cruise terminal area, will be fully accessible and designed for all age groups, with a 2,200 sq.m. model playground and a dual-direction cycling lane at its core. It will also include a 50-space parking facility, a food and beverage unit, an outdoor gym, and multi-purpose areas. The intervention is expected to significantly enhance the visitor experience and further position Piraeus as a modern, welcoming, and sustainable urban destination.
As highlighted by PPA Chairman Han Chao, the project is not merely another infrastructure development, but an investment in people, quality of life, and the city’s future.
Among other remarks, he stated: “We view the port as a dynamic organism, inextricably linked to the city of Piraeus and its people. The development of the port goes hand in hand with respect for the local community, and in this context, we will continue to implement projects that promote sustainable development and create long-term value for all stakeholders.”
The event was attended by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Greece, Fang Qiu, who underlined the project’s significance as an example of strengthening Greek-Chinese cooperation, noting that socially oriented investments contribute to deepening bilateral relations and advancing sustainable development.
Addresses were also delivered by Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Stefanos Gkikas, Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Domna Michailidou, and the Mayor of Piraeus, Yiannis Moralis.
All speakers emphasized that the project represents a high value-added intervention, substantially improving citizens’ daily lives, enhancing quality of life in the city, and contributing to the sustainable urban development of Piraeus.
