A new chapter in the international classification society’s collaboration with the Greek shipping community is inaugurated by the official assumption of duties by Ioanna Prokopiou as the new chair of the Hellenic Advisory Committee of Lloyd’s Register.

The appointment of Prokopiou, CEO of Sea Traders S.A. and Prominence Maritime S.A., took place in the context of the Committee’s 2026 meeting in Athens. The meeting brought together more than 30 Greek shipowners and senior executives, confirming the Committee’s role as a strategic forum for dialogue between Greek shipping and the global leadership of LR.

The official appointment of Ioanna Prokopiou as chair marks the next phase of the Committee’s evolution, in a period of intense changes in the shipping sector. As announced, during the meeting, members focused on critical issues such as newbuildings in Asia, the readiness of shipyards and shipowners to meet increasing regulatory requirements, fleet investment strategies, as well as the skills required to manage increasingly complex shipping systems. Particular emphasis was also placed on the path towards net zero, with a realistic assessment of the industry’s readiness.

Prokopiou underlined that the ongoing dialogue between LR and Greek shipping is crucial in a period of significant change. “Lloyd’s Register’s Hellenic Advisory Committee has always played an important role in fostering a positive and productive relationship between LR and the Greek shipping community. As the industry goes through a period of significant change, ongoing dialogue remains crucial. I look forward to supporting the Committee as it enters its next chapter,” she noted.
