Made-in-Greece satellites for the global market
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between ICEYE and Adamant Composites paves the way for the joint development of industrial capabilities aimed at large-scale satellite manufacturing, with Greece at the center of the effort.
The two sides describe the agreement as a new chapter for Greece’s domestic space ecosystem, focusing on strengthening the local supply chain and jointly pursuing a leading role in international space programs.
According to Dioni Diaz Gonzàlez, Senior Vice President, Global Manufacturing Organisation at ICEYE, “next-generation satellite constellations providing global coverage require innovation, space heritage and large-scale industrial production. Guided by this vision, we continuously invest in people, infrastructure and equipment, developing a strong manufacturing base capable of producing space subsystems for more than 140 satellites annually.”
Agreements to follow
The three-year MoU provides the framework for the conclusion of individual agreements involving specific engineering, manufacturing and supply commitments.
For ICEYE Hellas, the agreement represents a significant step toward creating a dynamic domestic space ecosystem capable of generating sustainable value for the Greek economy, as well as for the scientific and industrial community.
As Vassilis Chaloulakos, CEO of ICEYE Hellas, said, “this is how we build the industrial foundation for the satellites of the future.” He added: “We aspire to create a technological base that can produce state-of-the-art satellites here in Greece, with Greek hands and Greek know-how. This is industrial policy in practice.”
For Adamant Composites, the agreement lays the foundations for developing an autonomous domestic industrial capability in satellite manufacturing — a sector of enormous strategic and economic value for the decades ahead.
According to Antonios Vavouliotis, CEO of Adamant Composites, “under the MoU, the two companies will work together along three key pillars: optimizing the manufacturing process for satellite subsystems, developing large-scale production lines, and jointly participating in European and national space programs.”
ICEYE operates in Greece through ICEYE Hellas, with a focus on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technology. The partnership with Adamant Composites follows the completion of the Greek Space Programme’s “Axis 1.2,” under which ICEYE developed and placed into orbit the first two Greek radar satellites.
Adamant Composites, headquartered in Patras, is a Greek advanced composites company serving space applications, with an international presence in the Space and Defense industries. It specializes in the design, development and industrial production of advanced space subsystems and composite structures.
The company participates in flagship European Space Agency (ESA) programs as well as in the commercial space market.
