Meeting with delegation from Egypt – Maritime transport is “key” to relations with Greece
Focusing on the development of new coastal shipping connections between Greece and Egypt, which aspire to create a stable passenger and freight transport corridor in the Eastern Mediterranean, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs between the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Vasilis Kikilias, with a delegation from the Egyptian Ministry of Transport and executives from the company Pan Marine.
This initiative is part of the broader strategic plan to strengthen the connectivity of the two countries through modern coastal shipping lines, leveraging their geographical location and the upgraded role of Greek ports as gateways to Southeastern Europe and North Africa.
Vassilis Kikilias met with a delegation from the Egyptian Ministry of Transport and executives of the company Pan Marine.
The purpose of the meeting was to further promote institutional and operational cooperation in the maritime transport sector and the development of new coastal shipping connections.
Cooperation agreement with the Port of Patras Authority
As part of the cooperation, the Port of Patras Authority will sign a cooperation agreement with the company “Pan Marine” for the development of a coastal connection or connections with Egyptian ports, confirming the strong interest in the creation of new passenger and freight transport channels between Greece and Egypt.
Maritime transport “key” in Greek-Egyptian relations
The Minister underlined the crucial cooperation of Greece with the government of President Sissi, pointing out that the maritime transport sector is “key” in Greek-Egyptian relations due to the important and dynamically evolving role that the two countries play in global shipping.
Furthermore, he stressed that the two countries face common challenges such as tackling illegal migration, where they maintain very close cooperation. Finally, he wished the members of the mission every success in the contacts they are about to make in important ports in our country.
