New automated production line for Lehmann Marine battery systems fully operational

Ημερομηνία: 11-09-2026

Sunlight Group is positioning its Xanthi plant at the centre of the production of advanced battery systems for the international shipping industry, bringing into full operation a new, specialised and automated production and assembly line for its subsidiary Lehmann Marine, according to a company announcement.

With this new activity, Sunlight Group, a member of the Olympia Group and a leading company in integrated and innovative energy storage technologies, is further strengthening its presence in the growing market for maritime electrification. The launch of the new production line marks another strategic step in the development of Lehmann Marine while also leveraging Sunlight Group’s capabilities in large-scale industrial battery production in Greece. Following the successful assembly and quality control of the first 82 CUBE battery units, production is now fully operational, with a target annual capacity of up to 300 MWh for maritime applications, while additional lines may be added in the future.

The new production model combines Sunlight Group’s extensive expertise and capabilities in large-scale industrial battery production with Lehmann Marine’s expertise in the sale, installation and maintenance of energy storage systems for the shipping industry. Automated product assembly and preparation are carried out in Xanthi, while the final test in the presence of the customer — the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) — is conducted at Lehmann Marine’s facilities in Hamburg, Germany.

Through this model, the Sunlight Group says it combines in-depth knowledge of the market and customer needs with demanding large-scale production for high-performance applications. The aim is to establish an integrated European production chain for advanced battery systems for the shipping industry, offering cutting-edge technology from design and production through to installation and servicing.

“At Sunlight Group, we invest with a long-term horizon in technologies, production capabilities and specialised expertise”

Sunlight Group CEO Lampros Bissalas said: “At Sunlight Group, we invest with a long-term horizon in technologies, production capabilities and specialised expertise that enable us to expand into new markets and applications with strong growth prospects. With Lehmann Marine part of our Group ecosystem, we are leveraging significant synergies and combining its expertise in advanced battery systems for the shipping industry with Sunlight’s industrial scale and production expertise.

“At the same time, we are leveraging our strong industrial base in Greece, contributing to the transition towards cleaner and more efficient maritime transport while supporting employment in remote regions through highly skilled, high-value-added jobs.”
