The Grimaldi Group is focusing on the two ports of Igoumenitsa and Heraklion, as well as four ropax vessels currently under construction, two of which will serve Adriatic routes and the other two the Heraklion-Piraeus route.

Group head Emanuele Grimaldi, speaking at a press conference held as part of the 27th Euromed Convention “From Land to Sea”, made clear that the Group’s plans in Greece centre on developing the two ports. The initial focus will be on Igoumenitsa, where a series of new projects are already underway or planned, followed by the Port Authority of Heraklion.

In response to questions, Grimaldi ruled out the possibility of investing in other ports, as well as establishing a presence on other Greek islands beyond Crete, explaining that the Group has never focused on small islands.

As for the possibility of developing a logistics centre in Elefsina, including through a potential investment linked to its car-carrier operations, Grimaldi said the Group had considered Elefsina in the past, but not at this stage. However, he added that it is monitoring all developments.

Looking ahead to the Group’s investment plans following the nine vessels currently under construction, with a total value of $1.5 billion, Grimaldi said, among other things, that its Research and Development (R&D) division is already working on the most innovative solutions, with a clear objective: to make these vessels the most flexible and environmentally advanced in the world in their respective sectors.

The vessels will comprise a new generation of combined container and wheeled-cargo ships, known as ConRo vessels, as well as a new generation of multipurpose vessels. Forw
