Olympia Odos wins “Project of the Year 2025” award for Patras-Pyrgos motorway
Olympia Odos won the “Project of the Year 2025” award for the Patras-Pyrgos motorway at the 9th Infrastructure & Transport Conference – ITC 2026. The Patras-Pyrgos motorway secured 44.2% of the votes in the online poll, while also receiving the unanimous backing of the Expert Committee, which comprised representatives of industry bodies.
The award recognises major infrastructure projects and highlights best practices that can serve as a benchmark for future projects. Christos Karadimas, Chairman and CEO of Olympia Odos S.A., thanked everyone who has worked and continues to work on the project, as well as shareholders VINCI Concessions, AVAX Concessions, AKTOR Group and GEK TERNA.
“It is a great pleasure and honour for me to receive the ‘Project of the Year 2025’ award for the Patras-Pyrgos motorway. The greatest value of this project is experienced every day by thousands of drivers and travellers in Western Greece. It is a safe road that the region has been waiting for many years, as well as a driver of growth that can stimulate economic activity across the region,” he said.
The Olympia Odos project is of national significance, delivering multiple benefits for society and the economy by significantly improving mobility while providing greater safety, speed and comfort. Its contribution to road safety is reflected in an 83% reduction in accidents.
On the Patras-Pyrgos motorway in particular, the improvement in road safety has already been evident during the first 13 months of operation, with zero fatal accidents recorded. During this period, 3.7 million vehicles travelled along the motorway, while average daily traffic stood at 12,100 vehicles. Patrol and incident-response teams have dealt with 3,400 incidents, with an average response time of 16 minutes. Only 4% of incidents involved road accidents, almost all of which resulted in property damage only. Olympia Odos said it continues to strengthen safe mobility on a daily basis and represents an important part of Greece’s road network.
The Patras-Pyrgos motorway has now become a key piece of infrastructure directly linked to everyday travel in Western Greece, while also creating new prospects for the region’s economy and development.
