Patras Port targets cruise calls from 2028
The Port Authority of Patras (OLPA S.A.), represented by its Chairman and CEO Panagiotis Anastasopoulos, concluded its participation in events in Las Palmas with tangible results, including the MedCruise General Assembly, the Seatrade Cruise Med Expo and the CLIA Ports & Destinations Dialogue.
During the events, OLPA held targeted meetings with cruise companies, port representatives and international cruise-planning executives, presenting Patras as a new destination with a strategic location in Western Greece and direct access to a broader tourism and cultural offering.
These contacts have now progressed to a more advanced stage, with the first calls for 2028 included in the planning of companies in the sector. This marks the first time Patras has established a clear timeframe for an organised presence in the international cruise market.
The development supports OLPA’s strategy to transform the Port of Patras into a multimodal port through the implementation of its approved Master Plan and to develop higher value-added activities, with a direct impact on the local, regional and national economy.
Preparation and development through 2028
The period through to 2028 will serve as a phase of preparation and development, both in terms of port infrastructure and operational readiness and in terms of the overall destination experience.
At the same time, OLPA will coordinate with the city’s and region’s institutional and business stakeholders to ensure that the arrival of the first scheduled cruise calls translates into tangible economic benefits for Patras and Western Greece.
The aim is for Patras to establish a sustained presence in international cruise itineraries from 2028, with continuity, consistency and a measurable development impact for both the region and the country.
