PPC Group completes acquisition of ABO Energy’s Polish subsidiaries
Public Power Corporation S.A. (PPC) announced the completion of the transaction to integrate a portfolio of renewable energy projects in Poland, as part of the strategic agreement signed on August 7, 2026 to acquire the subsidiaries of ABO Energy in Poland and Hungary, with a total renewable energy project portfolio of more than 2 GW.
PPC acquired from Germany-based ABO Energy GmbH & Co. KGaA 17 of its subsidiaries in Poland, which hold a renewable energy project portfolio of up to 1.2 GW, comprising solar PV, wind and battery projects. Of these projects, a 17 MW solar PV plant is already under construction, while the remainder of the portfolio is at various stages of development. The transaction also brings the local project development team into the Group, adding significant expertise and in-depth knowledge of the Polish market.
The completion of the transaction for the Hungarian portfolio, with a total capacity of approximately 1.1 GW, remains subject to the fulfilment of certain customary conditions for transactions of this type, including, among other things, obtaining the required approvals from the relevant regulatory authorities, and is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.
New agreement for more than 2 GW of renewable energy projects in Poland and Hungary
The PPC Group had announced the signing of a strategic agreement with Germany-based ABO Energy GmbH & Co. KGaA to acquire its subsidiaries in Poland and Hungary, together with a renewable energy project portfolio with total capacity of more than 2 GW. The agreement marks another milestone in the Group’s “green” European portfolio, significantly strengthening and consolidating the PPC Group’s presence in Central and Southeastern Europe.
Under the agreement, the PPC Group is acquiring ABO Energy Polska z.o.o. and ABO Energy Hungary Kft., bringing two fully staffed project development platforms and their specialised teams in the two countries into the Group. The portfolio comprises 29 SPVs holding 99 MW of solar PV projects in operation or nearing completion, as well as more than 2 GW of solar PV, wind and battery projects at various stages of development.
The new business move, which follows the Group’s recent entry into the Hungarian market through an agreement to acquire a 57.5 MW solar park and into the Polish market through an agreement to acquire a 277.3 MW renewable energy portfolio, significantly accelerates the implementation of the Group’s new strategic growth plan for 2026-2030. The plan provides for expansion through renewable energy and storage projects in Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, through both organic development and acquisitions.
Acquisition of operating companies and local expertise
The transaction provides for the integration of two fully operational and already staffed local teams with proven experience in renewable energy project development.
The two platforms cover the full project development chain, including site identification, land acquisition, permitting, management of grid connection through to the “Ready-to-Build” stage, as well as project design and supervision.
The integration of the two platforms expands the Group’s operational capabilities for developing and delivering projects in the two countries, supporting long-term organic growth.
The new “green” portfolio in Poland and Hungary
The acquisition portfolio is characterised by significant technological and geographical diversification, spanning solar PV, wind and batteries, and includes 99 MW of projects in operation or nearing completion, as well as more than 2 GW of projects at various stages of development.
The agreement directly supports the Group’s regional objectives, with completion of the transaction for ABO Energy’s Polish subsidiary expected in September 2026 and the Hungarian transaction expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Completion of the transactions remains subject to the fulfilment of certain customary conditions for transactions of this type, including, among other things, obtaining the required approvals from the relevant regulatory authorities.

PPC completes transaction to integrate Polish renewables portfolio
To capitalise on the significant opportunities emerging across the wider region, the PPC Group is accelerating its growth, targeting a doubling of its total installed capacity to 24.3 GW by 2030 from 12.4 GW in 2025. This will be achieved by significantly increasing new capacity additions to 2.4 GW per year, primarily through renewables, flexible generation and storage.
Expansion in Hungary and Poland represents the natural geographical extension of the Group’s leading position in Greece and Romania, while an extensive investment programme is also being advanced in its other markets, including Italy, Bulgaria and Croatia. By 2030, 45% of the Group’s installed capacity will be located outside Greece, with a balanced energy mix comprising all modern forms of generation — solar, wind, hydropower and natural gas — as well as storage, ensuring geographical and technological diversification.
