Salamis Shipyards deliver four more outfitted blocks for third French Navy FDI frigate

Salamis Shipyards have completed and delivered four more outfitted blocks for the third FDI frigate of the French Navy, the seventh frigate overall in the FDI programme.

The delivery further strengthens the shipyard’s position as a strategic partner of Naval Group and underlines the expertise it has developed in projects involving demanding technical requirements and cutting-edge technologies. The four outfitted blocks were completed at the Salamis Shipyards facilities and departed Greece on August 28, 2026, bound for Naval Group’s shipyard in Lorient, France, where they will be incorporated into the frigate as part of the next stages of construction.

The shipment follows the dispatch on May 17, 2026, of the first of the five blocks that Salamis Shipyards was contracted to build for the third French FDI. With the shipment of the remaining four blocks, delivery of all five outfitted sections for the frigate has now been completed.

The blocks form part of the broader cooperation programme with Naval Group, under which Salamis Shipyards serves as a key industrial partner, building outfitted blocks for FDI-class frigates being constructed for both Greece and France.

The shipyard’s participation in the FDI programme marks a milestone for Greece’s shipbuilding and defence industries as a whole, as it is the first time in history that a Greek shipyard has participated in the construction of a high-tech warship for another country’s naval fleet. The cooperation with Naval Group, which has expanded steadily since the agreement was signed in 2022, covers Salamis Shipyards’ participation in the construction of FDI frigates for both the Hellenic Navy and the French Navy, through the production of outfitted hull and superstructure blocks.

Since February 2024, Salamis Shipyards has delivered the outfitted blocks for the third and fourth Greek FDI HN frigates, Formion and FDI HN 4 Themistoklis, while since July 2024 it has also delivered the corresponding blocks for the second French frigate being built in Lorient. Upon the completion of the delivery of the five blocks for the third French FDI, Greek participation in the programme is being further expanded, demonstrating the ability of the domestic shipbuilding industry to become integrated into international supply chains for high-tech defence programmes. Salamis Shipyards has also expanded its cooperation with Naval Group through the signing of a six-year contract for Follow-On Support for the FDI Belharra frigates, covering the technical support of Greek and French FDI frigates.
