Strong investment interest in greenhouses – Investments of over 540 million euros
Piraeus Bank’s investment program for greenhouses is attracting strong interest, according to data presented at an event at the 31st International Agrotica Exhibition, by the Bank’s General Manager of Agricultural Banking, Alkiviadis Alexandrou.
Specifically, 944 investors have submitted expressions of interest, with total investments estimated to exceed 540 million euros.
In modern greenhouse cultivation, new technological applications can multiply productivity, as a traditional greenhouse can yield five to seven tons of tomatoes per hectare, while a modern closed greenhouse can even reach 50 tons, with a parallel reduction in costs by approximately 20% and significant savings in resources, such as water and fertilizers.
“Greenhouse hub”
In this context, Piraeus Bank has proceeded to create a “greenhouse hub” in collaboration with university spin-offs, research institutions and companies in the sector, with the aim of optimizing production and better commercial exploitation of agricultural products.
Alexandrou also highlighted the crucial role of the new generation of producers in the modernization of Greek agriculture, pointing out that although Piraeus Bank treats all farmers as equal partners, young producers are at the forefront of the technological and business transition of the sector.
