Stronger financial performance and higher investment in H1

Ημερομηνία: 25-09-2026

The Athens Water Supply and Sewerage Company (EYDAP) posted a significant improvement in its financial performance, returned to profitability and accelerated investment in the first half of 2026, a period that also saw the introduction of the new water supply and sewerage tariff.

Total investment rose 22% to €43.2 million, while revenue increased 17.3% to €203.2 million. Net profit came to €17.1 million, compared with a €5.6 million loss in the same period of 2025. Of total investment, €39.2 million was allocated to projects under the company’s investment programme, with absorption increasing by 27%.

Water scarcity high on the company’s agenda

Water scarcity remains high on the company’s agenda, despite an improvement in the reserves of the main reservoirs. Available reserves increased from 399.7 million cubic metres on January 1 to 723.9 million cubic metres on July 1, 2026, mainly due to higher rainfall. They nevertheless remain significantly below the historical highs recorded in 2019. Higher water consumption, increased tourism activity and uncertainty over future hydrological conditions continue to require close monitoring and measures to strengthen the resilience of the water supply system.

Revenue from water supply and related services increased 17.6%, while revenue from sewerage services rose 21.6%. Total operating costs increased 0.6% to €184.4 million, while cost of sales declined by 2.3%.

Profitability was also supported by a €9.6 million, or 85.1%, reduction in provisions. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose to €42.6 million from €10.6 million, with the EBITDA margin increasing to 20.9% from 6.1%.
