Zakcret Sports enters Cyprus in first international expansion through Privé Sports
Greek sporting goods retailer Zakcret Sports has made its first move outside its home market by expanding into Cyprus through the acquisition of a strategic equity stake in local sports retail chain Privé Sports.
The deal marks the first international expansion for the family-owned company, founded by the Chaikalis family, after more than five decades in the Greek sporting goods market.
As part of the transaction, the two companies are rebranding the Cypriot retailer’s store network under the Zakcret Sports name. The stores have already adopted the new branding, while Zakcret said it is bringing to Cyprus the retail expertise and business philosophy it has developed since its establishment in 1975, aiming to offer customers an enhanced shopping experience and access to leading international sportswear and footwear brands.
Under the slogan “Moving Forward, Together,” the company said the expansion forms part of its broader long-term growth strategy.
Privé Sports, meanwhile, reassured customers that the changes are limited to the brand identity, with the existing management team and the values that have defined the business over the past 26 years remaining unchanged.
Following the transaction, Zakcret Sports’ network in Cyprus comprises seven physical stores—five in Nicosia, one in Larnaca and one in Paralimni. The company has also launched its dedicated Cypriot e-commerce platform, zakcret.cy, strengthening its online presence in the market.
