Cooperation agreement to bring Nepalese workers into Greek labor market
The creation of a permanent, transparent and institutionally safeguarded channel to facilitate the integration of skilled and semi-skilled workers from Nepal into the Greek labor market, in order to meet the needs of Greek businesses, was discussed at a meeting between the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry and a delegation from Nepal.
According to a statement issued by the chamber, the delegation was headed by Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal. A diplomat with extensive experience in Europe and a former ambassador to Spain and Oman, Dhakal is president of the International Relations & Global Diplomacy Dialogue, a leading independent think tank based in Kathmandu, and founding president of Ambassadors Club Nepal, a prominent diplomatic platform bringing together accredited ambassadors and heads of mission.
The Nepalese delegation sought the chamber’s guidance in identifying senior representatives of leading member companies. The aim is to organize, at the earliest opportunity, a Nepal-Greece Business and Labor Cooperation Roundtable, focusing on labor-intensive sectors such as shipping and maritime services (ship repair and technical services), supply chains (logistics and transport), tourism and hospitality, industry, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and food processing.
“Our goal is fair employment”
“We are not simply seeking employment opportunities, but the creation of a long-term relationship of trust,” Dr. Sarmila Parajuli Dhakal said.
“Our goal is fair employment, full protection of workers and the accurate matching of their skills with the actual needs of Greek employers,” the diplomat added.
The Piraeus Chamber welcomed the proposal, noting that such structured interaction would provide a secure and practical basis for strengthening the competitiveness of Greek businesses, while also opening up new prospects for bilateral trade and economic diplomacy.
In this context, the meeting also discussed in detail the prospect of establishing a dedicated Liaison Office at the Piraeus Chamber, which would operate as a permanent communication channel, with a primary focus on facilitating job placement, ensuring institutional legitimacy and meeting businesses’ workforce needs directly.
Cooperation agreement signed
The meeting was concluded with the signing of a Cooperation Agreement.
The agreement combines the expertise in economic diplomacy, international trade and investment with the high-level diplomatic network of Ambassadors Club Nepal.
Under the agreement, the two sides will systematically exchange economic, commercial and legal information on investment opportunities and international legislation, circulate studies, and support direct B2B contacts between companies and entrepreneurs in Nepal and Greece.
“The signing of this agreement is a decisive step toward strengthening the international outreach of businesses in Piraeus, with the aim of reducing the dependence of imports and exports to and from European countries,” Korkidis said.
“Recognizing the modern challenges facing the global market, we are creating an official and secure framework that will strengthen Greece’s presence in Asia, opening new trade horizons based on transparency, mutual trust and respect,” he added.
