First sports facilities to open, over 3,000 residents expected by 2028

“The Ellinikon is now moving from the construction phase to the phase of full operation and residential occupancy. The dream that the project would come to life in 2027 is very close to becoming reality.”

The CEO of LAMDA Development, Odisseas Athanasiou, outlined the current stage of progress of the largest urban regeneration project underway in Greece and one of the largest in Europe, in an interview with Fortune Greece.

The head of LAMDA Development provided a clear timetable for the next phase of the project. “People will be able to exercise in Ellinikon this autumn,” he noted, adding that the company is very close to making sports facilities available to the public and seeing people using them within The Ellinikon site.

He further stated that by Easter 2027, everyday life in the area will begin to take shape, with residents moving into the first properties as they are progressively delivered. “I believe that by next Easter, people will be living in The Ellinikon,” he said, explaining that the development does not only concern the Riviera Tower but also a broader range of residential properties along the coastal front.

A new urban community

He also provided an initial picture of the demographic transformation the project is expected to bring to the area. “By 2028, we will have delivered more than 1,000 apartments. This means that over 3,000 residents could be living in The Ellinikon,” he said, emphasizing that the investment is not limited to infrastructure and buildings, but extends to the creation of a new urban community.

Athanasiou also linked the project’s progress to Greece’s broader international image, noting that The Ellinikon has acted as a catalyst for psychological and investment recovery following the long economic crisis. As he explained, in the early years of the investment there was widespread scepticism—both about whether the project would be completed and whether the company itself could withstand the scale of such a major development.
