The 12th ShipIT Conference, co-organised by AMMITEC and BOUSSIAS Events, was held at the Eugenides Foundation, drawing strong participation from the shipping and technology communities. Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, data, energy efficiency and the new AMMITEC AI Working Group were at the heart of this year’s event.
This year’s ShipIT delivered a clear message: digitalisation in shipping is no longer a matter of technological choice, but a key driver of operational resilience and competitiveness. Discussions focused on Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity and cyber resilience, data utilisation, connectivity, energy efficiency and decarbonisation, with the emphasis shifting beyond new technologies themselves to how they can create measurable business value.
“The goal is not to adopt more technology. It is to adopt the right technology, with security, proper governance and clear business value.”
Particular emphasis was also placed on the rapid adoption of Artificial Intelligence in shipping.
“AI is already moving from experimentation into the real-world operations of companies. The next challenge is to make this transition with structure, governance and human oversight.”
Against this backdrop, the launch of the AMMITEC AI Working Group was also announced. The new initiative will focus on the practical adoption of AI in shipping, use cases, governance and shadow AI, as well as developing benchmarks, training and practical tools for the industry.
Through keynote presentations, panels and lightning rounds, the 12th ShipIT Conference highlighted a common direction for the sector: the next phase of digital shipping will not be determined by who has more technology, but by who can use it safely, quickly and with genuine operational effectiveness.
