Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT), a subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING Ports, has won two gold awards at the Environmental Awards 2026 for implementing innovative technologies that have helped reduce CO₂ emissions by more than 35% compared with 2022, while strengthening climate resilience and the safety of port facilities through an AI-powered network of 28 weather stations.
According to the company, the awards recognise the projects “Carbon Intelligence Framework: Monitoring, Managing and Reducing Port Emissions” and “SMART Microclimate Forecasting Network: Enhancing Climate Resilience”. Both form part of PCT’s broader strategy to decarbonise its operations and adapt to the impacts of climate change.
The PCT Carbon Intelligence Framework is an integrated system for recording, monitoring and managing greenhouse gas emissions. It supports evidence-based decision-making through a unified decarbonisation strategy and the implementation of prioritised, measurable and targeted actions to reduce the company’s carbon footprint. The systematic implementation of this strategy has already helped cut CO₂ emissions by more than 35% compared with the 2022 baseline.
The SMART Microclimate Forecasting Network comprises 28 weather stations and uses artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies to provide specialised microclimate forecasts and early warnings. The system makes a substantial contribution to strengthening climate resilience, further improving employee safety and supporting business continuity.
